Crossed Swords
These pictures are from our field trip to two of the International Zones major monuments: the Crossed Swords and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The hands holding the Crossed Swords are modeled after Saddam Husseins (naturally). The statues were erected to commemorate Iraqs victory in the Iran-Iraq War, and the green helmets strewn around the bases of the statues and embedded in the road are from captured or killed Iranian soldiers. Between the two pairs of crossed swords are an amphitheater and parade ground.
